Are autoflowering cannabis seeds feminized?

Male cannabis plant also known as Hemp.

Yes! All our autoflowering cannabis seeds are feminized.

Cannabis is a unique plant because it has both male and female plants. However, the male plant does not produce buds, and the only role of the male plant is to pollenate the female plants. Therefore, it is impossible to tell if a cannabis plant is male or female by looking at the seed.

What does Feminized mean?

When we say that a plant is "feminized," you're guaranteed to get a female plant from the seed. Feminized seeds are great for growers who do not want to waste time growing multiple seeds, only to discover that they're all male plants.

How do you start autoflowering seeds?

Learn how to Germinate Marijuana seeds

Germinating autoflower seeds is a piece of cake. Whether you're germinating autoflower seeds or photoperiod seeds, the process is the same.

  1. Get yourself a cup or jar and put some water in it.

  2. Let the water get to room temperature.

  3. Drop your seed into the vessel and soak for 12-24 hours.

  4. Keep the vessel in a dark place away from light.

  5. When your seed starts to grow a "tail," it is ready to be planted in Rockwool or soil.

What's the best light cycle for Autoflowers?

Autoflowering cannabis seeds do not depend on a light schedule. That being said, light is a crucial part of growing cannabis.

There are different opinions on what the best light cycle is for autoflowers. The three most common light cycles are:

  • 18 hours on - 6 off

  • 20 hours on - 4 off

  • 24 hours on

The cycle you choose will depend on your budget and cannabis strain. Try out the different ones and tell us which one worked best for you in the comments below.

My personal preference for autoflower cannabis seeds is 18 hours with the grow light on and 6 hours of darkness.

Are Auto flowering cannabis seeds easy to grow?

The answer is yes! They are easier and faster to grow than photoperiod plants.

Here are the most significant benefits of growing autoflowers:

  • Faster flowering and harvest

  • Easier to maintain

  • Autoflower cannabis seeds need less space to grow

  • Great for indoor grows

The typical time from germination to harvest is 6-14 weeks. When growing photoperiod marijuana seeds you can control when the plants go into the flowering stage. Some strains can take 8-12 weeks to get mature buds after setting the cannabis plants to the flower cycle.

Do autoflowers produce seeds?

Autoflowering marijuana seeds do not produce seeds. Therefore, you want your autoflowers to be feminized, meaning they are female plants.

You can have autoflowers produce seeds. However, this is a complicated process that involves pollination from a male photoperiod plant. You need to repeat this process a few times to get the autoflowering seeds. Learning to produce autoflower cannabis seeds is beyond the scope of this guide.

How do you maximize autoflower yield?

How to maximize your yield is one of the most common questions among growers. Low-stress training is your best option to get the best yield out of your autoflowering plants.

Low-stress training is basically bending over the main stem. What this does is allow your autoflower marijuana seeds to grow more main stems. The more main stems, or kolas, that your cannabis plants have, the more bud that you're going to harvest at the end of the growing cycle.  You can keep bending down the stems to multiply this effect and get a monster yield from your autoflower seeds.

Can you clone autoflower seeds?

Clones from a photoperiod Grandaddy Purple plant

No! Autoflower seeds cannot be cloned. You can get an autoflower cutting to root. However, it will be the age you took the cutting at. For example, say you took the cutting when the plant was four weeks old. This cutting would think it's in week 4 of growth.

Since your auto flowering plant thinks it's four weeks old, the cutting will focus on trying to make flowers and will ultimately die. The goal of taking cuttings is to get the cutting to root so you have another plant. If the plant is focused on the flowering stage, it will not work on forming roots.

What causes autos to flower?

Autoflowering cannabis switches from vegetative growth to the flowering phase according to their age, and not the ratio of light to dark hours. They have a short life cycle which means they will start to flower without the need for any interference. Autoflowers usually flower by the 5th week but if they miss their growth mark, you can also force them to flower by changing the room temperature.

Which Autoflower seed is best?

Autoflowering strains lacked the flavor and aroma of their photoperiod counterparts however breeders have done an excellent job of refining terpenes to reverse this. That being said, some autoflower seeds yield more than others, and to help you identify the best ones, here are a few high-yielding auto flower strains that are the best in the market.

  1. Zkittlez OG auto

  2. Godzilla cookies auto

Are autoflowering weed seeds good for beginners?

Autoflowering strains of cannabis are different from traditional photoperiod strains and are perfect for beginners with little to no experience with growing marijuana.

Here are a few reasons why beginners enjoy growing autoflowering strains.

  • They have a short lifecycle

Autoflowering seeds start developing buds automatically in just a few weeks after sprouting. Growing photoperiod strains means you have to force them to make buds by altering light periods but auto flowering seeds don’t need to be pushed into flowering. The entire process of growing these strains takes 3 months or less as opposed to traditional ones that take 3-5 months on average. Since autoflowering seeds have a short life cycle, growers prefer them for their quick harvest.

  • Their size is manageable

Autoflowering strains don’t reach monster heights and stay small and bushy, making it easy for breeders to grow them indoors. However, there are certain strains that have the tendency to grow much larger in size but they are labeled clearly by the breeder.

  • They are not dependent on climate or optimal light conditions

Autoflowering strains can be grown outdoors in most climates. As long as you can give the seeds at least three months of warm, sunny weather, you should be able to grow the plant outside easily. Moreover, they don’t need specific light patterns to grow and are unaffected by light leaks. For a new grower, these factors make it easy to kick start their marijuana crop.

  • They save electricity

Auto flowers save on power since they can grow even with a 12/12 light cycle. 12/12 is not preferable but the plants would still flower and yield some bud. To boost the energy savings, invest in a good LED light.

We’ll be doing a post on our favorite LED grow lights in the next few weeks so be sure to check back.

What’s better: autoflower or photoperiod feminized seeds?

Feminized seeds eliminate the chances of male chromosomes getting into the mix. This means your plant will produce buds that contain a larger amount of THC, CBD, and other important cannabinoids. Feminized seeds need optimal light conditions to flower such as a season where less sunlight reaches the plant. Indoor growers can create a similar environment by adjusting their growth lights.

Photoperiod female seeds produce more buds and fewer leaves compared to autoflowering seeds. They are also easier to prune.

Autoflowering seeds, while not as high-yielding as photoperiod feminized seeds are easier to grow and maintain because they don’t require light adjustment to grow. It is easier to create a suitable growth environment for autoflowering seeds.
